Follow the Law and the Fandom.com policies.

We don't have discretion in these matters. No amount of voting among ourselves will change this. These supersede anything specific to the Leviathans Wiki.

Law

The laws we are most concerned with as a community are those of the United States of America, as Fandom.com is an American corporation, and to whatever extent they apply the laws of California, as per the Fandom.com Terms of Use (accessed 13 August 2022) that is the governing law of a user's agreement with them. Subject to change, for informational purposes only.

Fandom.com Policies

There are very few policies which apply across all Wikia. These can be found on the Central Wikia at Wikia:Category:Policy.

Penalties for violating Law or Fandom.com policies.

The Admins will have to judge these on a case-by-case basis.

  • For minor, good-faith violations, like using the wrong copyright tag or not using one at all for certain content, it will be corrected, and the offender will be informed of correct procedure.
  • For habitual violations that are otherwise minor, we may have to weigh the needs of the community above "Good Faith" assumption. Some level of suspension from editing privileges may be in order, and if the problem cannot be corrected, we may consider a ban. This will have to be considered in the context.
  • For obviously bad-faith and egregious violations, like threats, harassment, posting certain other kinds of blatantly illegal or policy-violating content, or similar, we will block the offending account from interaction and hand it over to the appropriate authorities to deal with if appropriate.

Do not disrupt good relations with Catalyst Game Labs and their partners.

Catalyst Game Labs ("CGL") owns Leviathans. This Wiki is for fans of that game, its fiction and lore, and related topics. The Wiki can survive not meeting the expectations of some of its readers, but it cannot survive failing to meet the expectations of the IP owner.

This shall include, but is not limited to:

  • Keep criticism constructive, and confined to appropriate spaces: your blog or your personal talk page. Also, consider if this is the best venue to air your concerns: CGL has official and semi-official venues for discussion of these. (We're not official, we're fan-run.)
  • Do not post links to "pirated" material, advocate pirating CGL's Intellectual Properties or those of their partners, or similar. (This also runs afoul of "Follow the Law and the Fandom.com policies.")
  • Do not use this Wiki as a place to protest against Catalyst Game Labs or their partners. There are ample public venues to air your grievances, they do not belong here.
  • Do not promote competing products here. Start a wiki for those products instead! (Casual mention in your user page is fine.)
  • Follow Help:Procedure for Rules Pages. Game stats and game rules should be described only in general terms: this Wiki must never serve as an alternative to buying CGL's game products. Tell readers where to find the rules.

Respect this community and its members.

There is a code of conduct in the Fandom.com Terms of Use that we are all bound by, so this will be more advisory in nature.

  • The Leviathans fluff and fiction includes depictions of racism, misogyny, and other cultural attitudes that hew fairly closely to real-life 1910, plus or minus a few years. This is not there to be emulated. Example: A character may refer to the French by a particular offensive nickname, but please do not use that outside of quotes from the characters, and never to annoy or harass others in any case. You may intend it as a joke, but we have a diverse fanbase, and they may be (rightly!) offended. It's also against Fandom.com policy. See Help:Procedures for Sensitive Content for how to handle such things in articles.
  • The editors are volunteers giving of their time. The Admins and other officers give up some of their time working on their own interests to serve the community. Nobody is getting paid for this. Don't act to discourage them. We need good people to make this work.
  • Don't vandalize the wiki. This should not need explanation.
  • Remember that this is a collaborative work. Others will edit what you do. Accept it gracefully. Work with the team.
  • Be welcoming.
  • If you can't work things out with someone, ask a third party to step in to mediate. If things are bad, ask for an admin. Don't escalate matters.

Respect the decisions of the Admins.

Moderating fandom communities can be a difficult and thankless job. Sometimes they have to make the hard calls for the good of the community. They are also volunteers with limited time and resources. If you feel an Admin made a bad call, follow Help:Procedures for Appeals.

If you choose to ignore an Admin ruling after being given it directly, you risk a suspension of editing privileges and other penalties appropriate to the policy or procedure in question.

Keep Modern Minimal.

Leviathans Wiki is focused on the game and fictional world of Leviathans and to a lesser extent the historical counterparts of the people, nations and events depicted therein.

  • For discussion venues (comments, Wiki blog posts, talk pages, user pages), please avoid discussion of modern politics, interpersonal conflicts, conflicts with groups or corporations, pretty much stuff that is not discussion of the politics of the decade of 1910 as it pertains to the Leviathans setting. Keep that on your personal, off-site blog. Or Twitter. Facebook. Anywhere but here.
    • Clarification: This shall not be misconstrued to allow actions forbidden under the Fandom.com Terms of Use, including hate speech et. al. To borrow from another CGL property: "Leviathans is for everyone."
  • When creating or editing pages in Category:Real People, Category:Real Life Organizations, or Category: Real Life Events, follow Help:Procedure for Articles about the Real World.

Material that violates this is subject to removal without notice. Other policies may also apply.

Do not seek authority, seek responsibility.

Don't ask to become an Admin or other officer. Show us that you should be one, and it may be offered to you.

  • Learn and follow our policies, procedures, and culture.
  • Improve the wiki in ways large and small. Edit existing pages. Add citations. Add new pages. Proofread for spelling, grammar, phrasing. If something looks like it could be plagiarised, reword it. Do this consistently and over time.
  • Teach, and be welcoming. Offer to help those who are learning how to use the Wiki. If they decline, accept gracefully.
  • Collaborate. Seek consensus about significant changes. Be part of projects put together by others, or start your own. Ask questions! Nobody is an expert on everything.
  • If you see someone making positive contributions, drop by their talk page and offer praise! If you feel someone should be a member of the leadership team, recommend them to the Admins!
  • Take part in Informal and Formal Consensus.

Follow Established Procedures.

These are not as strong as Policy, but they are there to make sure we have a consistent look and feel across the Wiki, and maintain its integrity. See Category:Procedures.

We prefer to educate on these, unless the Procedure is mentioned in a policy specifically.

Do Not Post Fan-Works in the Wiki Outside the designated area.

Fan-works, or "Fanon", belong in a Blog post under Category:Fan-works, or if large enough, on a separate site. "Speculation" often comes under Fanon as well. This includes your own designs, your own artwork, fanfiction, etc. We don't host those in the Main Space of the Wiki: they confuse people who are here looking for information about the Canon stuff. Feel free to link to your stuff from your profile or blog posts so long as it doesn't otherwise violate policy!

Fanon in the Wiki is subject to speedy deletion.

Exception: If CGL makes a fan-collaborative work part of an event such as a Kickstarter, that is relevant, but the level of canonicity should be noted.

Have Fun!

We are here because we are passionate about a community surrounding a game and what is associated with it. The penalty for violating this policy is self-inflicted. It's OK to take a break from the not-fun stuff.

Penalties for Violating Policy

Penalties will be commensurate with the degree of offense, ranging from informal warnings to formal warnings, or temporary suspensions or even longer bans. Specific penalties are outlined in certain policies. We will be guided by what is best for the community and keeping it a safe and fun place for everyone.

Amending Policies

  • An Admin may amend policy immediately if necessary to comply with legal requirements, Fandom.com policies, or to maintain good relations with the IP holders. The Admin must document the change in Leviathans_Wiki_talk:Policy and it is subject to review and consensus by the other Admins after the fact. If an immediate change is not absolutely required, post in the talk page first and seek input from others. A consensus of Admins is still all that is required for these changes.
  • An Admin may amend policy for spelling, grammar, minor phrasing changes for clarity, etc. with a simple note in the Summary as to the change being what is required. This may be brought up for discussion in the talk page if others object.
  • Other changes to policy must be presented for Consensus as laid out in Help:Consensus and Voting.
  • This page shall be protected from editing by non-Admins, but the Talk page for it shall remain open.
